Oriental Studies and the Orhun Programme: OTS Secretary General Visits Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies
Author: TURKUNIB Date: 13 Nov. 2025 Category: Higher EducationOTS Secretary General Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev visited Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS) on 13 November 2025, meeting Rector Gulchehra Rixsiyeva to discuss the expansion of educational cooperation and academic partnerships among the Turkic countries.
The two sides agreed to strengthen collaboration and increase joint initiatives through the Orhun Exchange Programme of the Turkic Universities Union – a concrete, university-level commitment to the mobility instrument at the heart of TURKUNIB's agenda. During the visit, the Secretary General also delivered a lecture entitled “Current State and Prospects for the Development of Cooperation within the Framework of the OTS,” emphasizing to students and faculty the role of educational and cultural cooperation in deepening ties among the member states.
The visit continued an engagement begun earlier in the year, when the TSUOS leadership visited OTS Headquarters in Istanbul in April 2025, and formed part of a series of university visits by the Secretary General in Tashkent that week, including Tashkent International University – TURKUNIB's Chair University – and Nordic International University, one of the Union's newest members.
Agreements of this kind show the Orhun Exchange Programme working as intended: not an abstract framework, but a channel through which individual universities commit to concrete joint activity. For the wider TURKUNIB membership, TSUOS's engagement illustrates how universities can anchor their internationalization strategies in the Union's common mobility architecture.
